What tips do you have for trouble shooting Navionics map problems?
Units with SONAR/RADAR/SOUNDER/FISHFINDER must be set to Full to read the Navionics charts.
1. Press VIEW button until the CHART screen appears (different than the BIRD’S EYE VIEW screen).
2. If you are not physically on the water you must have the unit set in SIMULATOR mode.
a. Once the unit is turned on and while the unit is displaying the model number, quickly press the MENU button and select
SIMULATOR
3. Make sure the unit has the most up-to-date software version.
If your unit requires a software update, please do not use the Navionics chart to download the software or have the Navionics chip inside the unit when the software is being updated as this will corrupt the Navionics chart and render the card useless.
a. Check software version by powering on the unit and while the unit is displaying the model number, quickly press the
MENU button.
b. The display will change to show three or four menu options - NORMAL, SIMULATOR, SYSTEM STATUS &
sometimes PC CONNECT - depending upon the unit. Scroll to SYSTEM STATUS and press enter and the
SOFTWARE VERSION will display.
4. Place the chart in the unit – in upper right hand corner unit will display “LOADING CHARTS”
5. Press the MENU button twice
6. Scroll right to NAV or CHARTS tab (depending on unit)
7. Scroll down to CHART DETAIL LEVEL and set to ALL
8. Scroll down to MAP BORDERS and set to VISIBLE or MMC/SD ALL/ONLY
9. Scroll down to SPOT SOUNDINGS and set to VISIBLE.
10. Some units, especially the NVB, have a CHART SELECT section that can be turned to:
a. AUTO
b. UNIMAP
c. RIGHT CHART CARD
d. LEFT CHART CARD
11. EXIT out of all menus.
a. If you are physically located in the area you wish to view and the GPS is reading the satellite, use the ZIN/ZOOM IN
& ZOUT/ZOOM OUT buttons for the detailed NM zoom range levels, detail for all charts start at 16NM zoom range
level.
b. If you are not physically located in the area you wish to view, use the ZIN/ZOOM IN & ZOUT/ZOOM OUT buttons
and the ARROW buttons to pan over to the area to view the detailed NM zoom range levels, detail for all charts start at
16NM zoom range level.
12. To view the satellite overlay and 3D view select the split screen mode for BIRDS’S EYE VIEW & CHART screens by pressing the VIEW button.
Steps to access Platinum+ features
If you are not physically located on the water the unit must be set in SIMULATOR mode. For Humminbird 997 units it is recommended to do these steps prior to adding the chart.
1. To set the unit to simulation mode (PLEASE NOTE UNIT CHANGES QUITE QUICKLY ON THESE MENUS)
a. Press the MENU button.
i. The display will change to show three or four menu options; NORMAL, SIMULATOR, SYSTEM STATUS &
sometimes PC CONNECT – depending upon the unit
ii. Press SIMULATOR
2. 3D/2D Split Screen
a. Press VIEW softkey repeatedly until desired split screen option appears
b. Then press MENU once to display active side menu. Use arrow softkeys to select active side (right or left) and adjust
split position
c. Press EXIT to return to chart view
3. 3D & Aerial Photos – Up to 1 mile inland 3 miles offshore
a. Press the MENU key twice to display the main menu
b. Select the Navionics logo –Platinum- on the top right tab. Confirm that CHART AERIAL OVERLAY & 3D
AERIAL OVERLAY are set as VISIBLE.
NOTE: there may be a brief delay on all 3D chart viewing
i. If customer is in SIMULATOR mode they must set simulation position to view the 3D information:
Press MENU key twice to display CHART tab. Scroll to SET SIMULATION POSITION and arrow right to
select.Pop-up will appear with CONFIRM, SET SIMULATION POSITION < NO YES>. Press arrow to right
to answer YES.
c. Press MENU key once to display menu. Select USE ARROW softkeys to select OVERLAY TRANSPARENCY
and to adjust transparency overlay level
4. Panoramic Photos
a. Put cursor over the camera icon – appears at zoom levels less than .25SM
i. Press the INFO softkey to display photo
ii. Press INFO softkey again to exit
b. Put cursor over the port symbol – appears at zoom levels less than .25SM
i. Press the INFO softkey to display the PORT INFO menu
ii. Use ARROW softkeys to select PANORAMIC PHOTO to display photo
iii. Press INFO softkey again to exit
5. Port Information & Pilot Books
a. Put cursor over the port symbol – appears at zoom levels less than .25SM
b. Press INFO softkey to display PORT INFO menu
c. Use ARROW softkeys to select and view port information
d. Press INFO softkey again to exit
