    Why does my directional icon (boat) change to a red circle?

    The directional boat icon changes to a red circle when your boat speed reduces below .8 mph and this is by design.  There is nothing wrong with the unit.

    While this seems to be a controversial topic on the various fishing forums, certain species of Anglers like the circle while others do not.   

       

    Anglers have stated that the circle is beneficial because it shows the boat is slowing down and it still moves and it is still tracking. You can drive the circle over waypoints and know you are on top of the waypoint and you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
