Senior Software Engineer

Participate in the design, development, maintenance, support and enhancement of proprietary marine consumer electronics software products. Responsibilities include software design and development of user interface at functional and modular level; defining and documenting user interfaces implementation; performing database schema and algorithm design; implementing software designs including coding, debugging and testing; collaborating with industrial design team for system user interface design and system verification team for product testing and verification; working with management and project management team to develop detailed estimates of software schedule/task breakdowns; conducting peer-to-peer code review.  Develops Unified UI part (Dialogs/Menus) by using C/C++, Windows XP, Linux Ubuntu, GDB, GCC, g++, Adobe AIR/Flex, FlexBuilder, Qt, QML, C++, Eclipse, Perforce, and SQLite.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and three (3) years of experience as a Software Engineer.   As part of the experience being required, applicants must have had: a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the design and development of marine consumer electronics navigation software products, including: experience in user interface software development using user interface programming techniques, including JAVA Swing/AWT, Adobe AIR/Flex, FlexBuilder and XML; experience in Java multi-threading in Window and Linux OS environment; experience in the use of software compilers/debuggers, such as Eclipse and GDB; experience in a source Code Control System such as Perforce; experience in developing GIS software elements, including waypoints, routes, and GPX/Google KML files; and experience in showing Waypoints, Routes, and Tracks in Google Earth. Applicants must also have a minimum of one-year experience in following areas: experience in SQL Database design, implementation and script programming; experience in developing software user interfaces using Qt, QML; and experience in C++ software programming.  Applicants must also have experience in reading Microsoft Excel file with Apache POI package; experience in Java JNI; and experience in dom4j to parse/generate XML.

  • Plans, organizes, and controls, with minimal direction, the sourcing of materials and services associated with major strategic commodities including, but not limited to Plastic injection molding, LCDs, Glass Bonding, and cables.
  • Implements global supply management strategies to achieve supplier partnerships, supplier base reduction, effective asset management, competitive cost and value propositions, continuous quality, delivery and cycle time performance improvement, and early supplier involvement in Johnson Outdoors’ new product development efforts.

  • Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics or engineering and/or 7 to 10 years of equivalent experience. Five or more years as a buyer of complex commodities including International suppliers, plus additional experience in materials functions.
  • APICS and CPM preferred.
  • Previous specific experience as a commodity manager is preferred. 
  • Experienced in Lean Manufacturing operating standards preferred.

    Senior Mechanical Design Engineer


    The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will participate in the mechanical design and development required for a Humminbird marine consumer electronics product.  The responsibility level for this position requires being solely responsible and accountable for the design, documentation and qualification of custom mechanical parts and assemblies for a new Humminbird product from project start to manufacturing, with continued support after manufacturing begins.   This includes establishing and meeting project schedule and costing objectives.


    The candidate will possess the following minimum knowledge and technical skill levels necessary to perform at the responsibility level required for this senior level position:
    • Advanced knowledge of mechanical design principals and techniques.
    • Advanced knowledge of plastic injection molded part design.
    • Advanced knowledge of plastics, polymers, metals, etc. 
    • Advanced knowledge of mechanical assembly technologies (welding, adhesives, etc.)
    • Advanced knowledge of Pro-E or other mechanical CAD design tools.
    • Advanced experience with mechanical test equipment.


    The candidate for this position will be expected to carry out the following mechanical design tasks with minimal supervision from more senior mechanical engineers or management:
    • component level part design
    • cable part design
    • simple mechanical assembly design
    • complex mechanical assembly design
    • specify mechanical/electrical interfaces
    • evaluation/selection of mechanical components
    • troubleshoot mechanical design issues during development and after production start
    • perform prototype design experimentation
    • perform mechanical design qualification testing
    • complete and release design documentation
    • research and write patents
    • perform peer level design reviews
    • write test plans for mechanical design qualification
    • oversee tooling vendors, coordination with molder
    • supervise mechanical engineering student interns or co-op students 

    Minimum BSME degree with 5-7 year’s professional experience specifically related to mechanical design, preferably in the area of consumer electronics products. Educational lab and/or co-op experience will also be considered. 

    The candidate must be a strong, motivated contributor in a team environment. He/she must have excellent social and interpersonal skills, be able to take direction and guidance, and work well within the cooperative culture of the Humminbird Engineering group.
