C++/C# Mapping/GIS Senior Developer Position

Our Toronto team is looking for a senior developer with 5+ years of experience in software application development and with a strong and proven background in mapping and GIS technologies.
The ideal candidate will have a B.Sc. or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a comparable degree and can easily demonstrate logical thinking, understands deeply the principles of OOD, can author and document well-structured code, has good mathematical ability, understands mapping and GIS systems and who is truly motivated to be a productive developer within a friendly team environment. 
The new team member will be working with and learning from a seasoned and highly effective team of software, firmware, web, and mobile developers who will depend on her/his contributions and the solutions that s/he builds. 

Candidate’s Roles and responsibilities:
• Developing new and innovative bespoke software tools for processing, storing and rendering complex geometry and map data. 
• Developing core modular engines and algorithms to intelligently automate map data processes
• Creating and maintaining geodatabases as well as structured non-GIS related databases.
• Identifying, creating and implementing new tools for automated and batch processing of large datasets into the GIS workflow.
• Assisting with the planning, design, and development of GIS tool-chains. 
• Identifying and implementing improvements for software design and test processes.
• Partnering closely with internal teams to meet deliverables, troubleshoot and solve issues/concerns and ensure successful results.
• Partnering with others on the GIS team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively and within the project timeline.
• Assisting in beta-testing, quality control, and quality assurance.
• Researching and staying current on new software packages, scripting languages, and techniques within the GIS programming environment.
• Working directly with management, the existing engineering team, and customers to gather business requirements and distill them into a specification.
• Performing various small R&D projects to demonstrate proof of concept.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or equivalent required, post graduate degree an asset.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in applications programming.
• Programming Languages: Object-Oriented programming languages and associated frameworks a must. Experience with C++ and C# required. Experience with the Qt framework an advantage.
• GIS skills: Mapinfo, GlobalMapper, and/or ArcGIS an advantage. 
• Database skills: SQL, Geodatabase a plus.
• Knowledge of geographic datums and projections.
• Personal suitability: You should be organized, accurate, proactive, a good communicator and a team player.

Participate in the design, development, maintenance, support and enhancement of proprietary marine consumer electronics software products.  Responsibilities include software design and development of software navigation component at functional and modular level; defining, developing and documenting CAN driver software interface; performing database schema and algorithm design; implementing software designs including coding, debugging and testing; collaborating with industrial design team for system interface design and system verification team for product testing and verification; working with management and project management team to develop detailed estimates of software schedule/task breakdowns; conducting peer-to-peer code review.  Develops navigation software by using C/C++, Windows XP, Linux Ubuntu, GDB, GCC, g++, C++, Perforce, and SQLite.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or Information Technology, and three (3) years of experience as a Software Engineer.  As part of the experience being required, applicants must have had: a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the design and development of consumer electronics navigation software products, including: experience in using C/C++ language to design, develop, and test embedded control software for vehicular navigation systems, including waypoints, routes, tracks, and maps; experience with vehicle electronic systems and protocols (CAN); experience with Vector CAN development tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, or CANape) or equivalent; experience in the use of software microcontrollers, compilers/debuggers; experience in kernel driver development in Embedded RTOS; experience in network development, including TCP/IP, Socket communication; and experience in SQL Database design, implementation and script programming.  Applicants must also have a minimum of one (1) year experience in the design and development of navigation software products with Bluetooth technology.
