Production software engineer

Job Summary
Under the general direction, develops, enhances and delivers software technology in support of the manufacturing process.  Provides technical support to software projects, and participates in establishing/meeting project schedules and specifications. Routinely interacts with database development and test engineering. This position reports to the Process/Test Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs technical analysis, design, coding, testing, development, debugging and modification of software systems. Defines both functional and technical requirements to facilitate design, development, testing and implementation.
• Interacts with a variety of internal teams to define system or application requirements. Prepares technical documentation and provides written, concise proposals and recommendations.
• Defines and documents hardware/software interfaces, and establishes configuration management for software platforms.
• Writes comprehensive test plans for software qualification testing, performs software release qualification and documentation
• Investigates and analyzes software related industry/product standards, specifications and research literature to develop new and enhance existing technologies. Performs competitive product evaluations and determines if the research and design is valid and practical to develop innovative product/software designs.
• Identifies and implements improvements for software design and test processes.
• Participates in a variety of software engineering projects to develop and execute software designs for new and existing projects. Partners closely with internal teams to meet deliverables, troubleshoot and solve issues/concerns and ensure successful results. Establishes and meets project schedule objectives and product specifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

• Knowledge of and skills in software system architecture design; embedded systems programming fundamentals and techniques; embedded real-time operating systems; a variety of microprocessors and micro-controllers; user-interface design, graphics processing, DSP programming; software and hardware development tools;
• Knowledge of and experience in. Microsoft Visual Studio. C#, Java and SQL Server Management Studio.  Strong systems coding experience.
• Experience with inter-process communication, multi-tasking and multi-threading.
• Establishment and use of a source code control system.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels throughout the organization and external vendors, strong customer service orientation, excellent problem solving skills and the ability to drive for results.

Education:   Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent. 
Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience in software development.

C++/C# Mapping/GIS Senior Developer Position

Our Toronto team is looking for a senior developer with 5+ years of experience in software application development and with a strong and proven background in mapping and GIS technologies.
The ideal candidate will have a B.Sc. or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a comparable degree and can easily demonstrate logical thinking, understands deeply the principles of OOD, can author and document well-structured code, has good mathematical ability, understands mapping and GIS systems and who is truly motivated to be a productive developer within a friendly team environment. 
The new team member will be working with and learning from a seasoned and highly effective team of software, firmware, web, and mobile developers who will depend on her/his contributions and the solutions that s/he builds. 

Candidate’s Roles and responsibilities:
• Developing new and innovative bespoke software tools for processing, storing and rendering complex geometry and map data. 
• Developing core modular engines and algorithms to intelligently automate map data processes
• Creating and maintaining geodatabases as well as structured non-GIS related databases.
• Identifying, creating and implementing new tools for automated and batch processing of large datasets into the GIS workflow.
• Assisting with the planning, design, and development of GIS tool-chains. 
• Identifying and implementing improvements for software design and test processes.
• Partnering closely with internal teams to meet deliverables, troubleshoot and solve issues/concerns and ensure successful results.
• Partnering with others on the GIS team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively and within the project timeline.
• Assisting in beta-testing, quality control, and quality assurance.
• Researching and staying current on new software packages, scripting languages, and techniques within the GIS programming environment.
• Working directly with management, the existing engineering team, and customers to gather business requirements and distill them into a specification.
• Performing various small R&D projects to demonstrate proof of concept.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or equivalent required, post graduate degree an asset.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in applications programming.
• Programming Languages: Object-Oriented programming languages and associated frameworks a must. Experience with C++ and C# required. Experience with the Qt framework an advantage.
• GIS skills: Mapinfo, GlobalMapper, and/or ArcGIS an advantage. 
• Database skills: SQL, Geodatabase a plus.
• Knowledge of geographic datums and projections.
• Personal suitability: You should be organized, accurate, proactive, a good communicator and a team player.
